Biography
John Cummins joined the City of Cedar Park as the Emergency Management Coordinator in January, 2018. John brings to the City of Cedar Park a diverse background in Public Safety and Emergency Management. John began his Emergency Management career over 30 years ago as a volunteer with his local Emergency Services and Disaster Agency (ESDA) while attending high school. Following high school, John worked through a public safety career holding several positions including; Police Investigator, Fire Chief, and Emergency Management Coordinator. After 10 years as a Chief Officer, John left public employment for a few years and worked with non-profit disaster management which gave him the opportunity to manage major disaster incidents across the country and internationally.
John Cummins holds a Masters in Public Administration with a discipline in Disaster Management and a Bachelor of Science in Fire Service Management from American Public University. He is certified by the International Association of Emergency Managers and the Emergency Management Association of Texas as a Certified Emergency Manager. John also holds several public safety certifications from the State of Illinois and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
As Emergency Management is charged with administering the Unmanned Arial Systems (UAS) program for all city services, John also holds a FAA Part 107 Airmen Certification for UAS and a Trusted Operator Program (T.O.P.) Level 3 certification from the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International.
John has lived in Cedar Park with his wife and three kids since 2017.
