Battalion Chief Bruce Herms has served the City of Cedar Park since 1994 as one of the first paid firefighters for the City.
Battalion Chief Herms joined the Cedar Park Fire Department in 1987 as a volunteer firefighter until March of 1994 when the city started a paid Fire Department. BC Herms attended the ACC Fire Academy in Taylor to become one of the first four paid firefighters for the city. Working his way through the ranks as a Driver, Fire Lieutenant, Fire Captain and Battalion Chief. BC Herms has served as the Training Officer for approximately one year and the Fire Marshal for approximately six years. He currently runs a shift of 19 firefighters at four stations.
Battalion Chief Herms is certified by the Texas Department of State Health Services as an Emergency Medical Technician and the Texas Commission on Fire Protection as an Advanced Firefighter, Advanced Fire Inspector, Fire Instructor II, Driver Operator, Hazardous Materials Technician, Fire/Arson Investigator, Fire Officer IV, Wildland Firefighter, and Incident Safety Officer. He is also a licensed Peace Officer for the State of Texas.
Battalion Chief Herms and his wife Dawn live in Cedar Park and have two children and three granddaughters. In his spare time he enjoys woodworking and spending time with his grandchildren.
