Post Date:01/26/2017

Little Elm Ribbon Cutting-1-2

Cedar Park and Williamson County leaders officially dedicated the Little Elm Trail Extension Project in a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, January 26, 2016.  The project is part of an interlocal agreement with Williamson County and provides drivers an additional east-west route, thus helping to relieve traffic congestion on Cypress Creek Road.

“This project has been at least twenty years in the making,” Mayor Matt Powell said.  “It opens up greater connectivity and greater commercial possibilities."

Williamson County Commissioner Cynthia Long said, “Overall, residents are really excited to have this as a reliever to Cypress Creek Road.”

The length of the extension is about 1.2 miles.  It includes turn lanes along southbound US 183 and Lakeline Boulevard.  It also includes asphalt mill and overlay of existing pavement on Little Elm Trail and Lakeline Boulevard.

The project was completed ahead of time and under budget.  The contract completion date was March 25, 2017.  The road opened on January 12.  Project expenses are estimated at about $6 million – about $1.5 million under the budgeted $7.5 million.  Sources of project funds consist of:
  • $3.53 million from Williamson County
  • $550,000 from the 4B Community Development Corporation
  • $408,000 from the City’s Utility Fund
  • $3.53 million in voter-authorized General Obligation Bond funds.

The engineer was CP&Y, the contractor was Patin Construction, and project representation and inspection were provided by Dial Development Services.
