Update to Cypress Lane Homicide

Post Date:12/19/2019 6:54 pm

The Cedar Park Police Department has an update in the case surrounding a homicide involving a missing mother.

Through the investigation and with the continued help of our assisting agencies, skeletal human remains have been discovered.

Based on that evidence to include artifacts located within the skeletal remains, we are as confident as possible without DNA confirmation that the remains are those of Amanda Gordon.

The remains were found in the Bastrop County area on the property of one of Samuel Byrd’s known associates.

Ultimately, we discovered remains in two different areas of the property. The initial finding is that the remains were found in a burn pit and it is clear through the investigation, there were measures taken to dispose of the evidence.

We will not be able to confirm the identity of the remains until further DNA forensic testing can be done.

In working with the Williamson County District Attorney’s Office, Samuel Roy Byrd has been charged with murder in this case.

This is still very much an active and ongoing investigation.

Again, we would like to extend our deepest condolences to Amanda’s family and ask that you please continue to respect their privacy during this time.

Original press release 12/14/19:

Around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday December 12th, Cedar Park Police received a phone call from a concerned family member who said they hadn’t seen or heard from Amanda “Mandi” Gordon (11/19/89) in a few days.

Officers responded to a home at 2505 Cypress Lane to conduct a welfare check on Mandi and her two young children living at the address.

Officers were able to make contact with Mandi’s common law husband, Samuel Roy Byrd who was not cooperative in letting officers enter the residence.

We became concerned with Byrd’s explanations of Amanda’s whereabouts.

Based on our continued concerns of the whereabouts of Mandi Gordon and the concerns of the minor children in the home, we utilized force entry with the Central Texas Regional Swat Team.

After conducting an interview and gathering information, an evidentiary search warrant was obtained with assistance from the Williamson County District Attorney’s Office.

The minor children were removed from the residence and are safe with family members.

After a preliminary search of the property, Samuel Roy Byrd (12/3/1987) was taken into custody and is currently facing drug related charges.

The Cedar Park Police along with assistance from the Texas Rangers, Travis County Search and Rescue, and the Texas Game Wardens have been actively investigating the scene since Thursday night.

Based upon the investigation and information obtained up to this point, we are sad to announce it is our belief that Amanda Gordon is deceased.

At this point in the investigation, we are now treating this as a homicide.

In addition, at this time we are attempting to locate Amanda’s body.

We expect to remain on scene at 2505 Cypress Lane in the coming hours and days.
