During the winter months of December, January and February, the City re-averages your usage to calculate your sewer (wastewater) charge for the year.
The sewer (wastewater) rate is based on a three-month consumption period. Once a year, during the winter months of December, January and February - when outdoor irrigation is typically lower - the City re-averages your usage to calculate your sewer (wastewater) charge for the year for a residence. This is commonly referred to as "wastewater averaging".
Simply put, you can save money year ‘round by turning off your irrigation system for the winter (during the months of December, January and February). Lawns are now dormant during that time period and do not need watering. Turning off your irrigation can help save you a bundle on your water bill.
Any resident can request in writing, once a year, to have their sewer re-averaged using three different consecutive months within the current year.
