In response to the winter storm of 2021, the Texas Legislature passed Senate Bill 3. SB3 requires public water systems to enact plans to maintain water service during extended power outages. While the City of Cedar Park’s Water Treatment Plant and our main pump station (Dies Pump Station) have redundant power feeds and did not lose power during that storm, the utility must still respond to SB3 and add even greater resiliency to the water system. So we implemented the Water System Resiliency Project.
Project includes emergency power generation, advanced power system monitoring and control, power system safety upgrades.
Funding
Funding for the Project comes from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) of 2021 (federal funds).
Completed Phases
- Phase 1 - generator purchased and project design begins
- Phase 2 - electrical equipment procured, generator pads constructed, generators installed
Current Phase
- Phase 3 - bid and construct remainder of project
