The American Legion Post 911 in Cedar Park is dedicating a monument to honor Central Texas families who have lost a loved one in military service. The monument will be placed at the Cedar Park Veterans Memorial Park and is part of an effort by the Hershel “Woody” Williams Medal of Honor Gold Star Families Foundation to build one such monument in each of the 50 states. The monument in Cedar Park will be the first Gold Star Monument in Texas.
The dedication ceremony will include Gold Star family recognition, an unveiling of the monument, a wreath-laying ceremony and a flyover by the Texas National Guard. Multiple Gold Star families will participate as well as the WilCo Blue Star Mothers, a number of veteran service organizations, and federal, state and locally elected officials. Remarks will be delivered by Woody Williams, the last surviving United States Marine Corps WWII veteran to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor.
